ASA N12 current draw for fan and OK3

Hi,

 

I'm having trouble with my mount stalling when I run the N12 and focuser from the 12V outlet provided on the mount.

 

What is the current draw of the fan and OK3?

Hi Stuart,

 

since you got no response, I went ahead and measured current draw of my system (ASA N-10" with standard OK3 OAZ/Focuser). Here are my findings:

 

13.91V input voltage
5 watt power supply only

consumption 8 watt with primary mirror fan on

focuser
consumption 7 watt idle

17 watt when moving at full speed  (U = 13,90 Volt)

I = P / U

2 / 13.9 = 144mA

3 / 13.9 = 215mA

5 / 13.9 = 360mA

7 / 13.9 = 504mA

8 / 13.9 = 576mA

17 / 13.9 = 1.223 A
 

therefore I'd say the primary mirror fan takes from 200-300 mA while the OK3 takes at most 1.5A peak when running and about 0.5A when "idle". This means, that for my mobile setup I can calculate with < 1A per ASA telescope (OK3 + fan).

Direct Digital Ammeter readings on my ASA10/OK3 using 12V battery: (voltage reading 12.6V)

 

Fan 145mA

 

Focuser idle 127mA

 

Focuser moving 550 - 950mA

Hi Mark and Pavel,

 

Thanks for this, I have resolved my issue anyway, it wasn't the fan causing the problem, I have a sick motor in my Paramount.

 

This is good info, it means that I don't have to run a separate power supply for the N12.
