Low Earth Orbit and ASA mounts? Also, AutoSlew sim mode?

VMiceli

Question

Hello folks,

I'm considering a DMM85 mount for a new setup. I have two questions:

1) Are the ASA mounts capable of tracking low Earth orbit objects provided TLE data (ISS etc...)? How about asteroids and comets ... moving further away from Earth :-) ? I haven't been able to find a definitive answer to this in the forum.

2) I was under the impression that anyone could install AutoSlew and use it in sim mode without an ASA mount. I installed it but can't go past the serial number input screen. Am I missing something?

Thanks and best wishes for 2017!

Vincenzo

Hi VIncenzo,

the ASA mounts have been used for exactly this quite a few times, but I honestly don't know how to deal with such a situation on the software side.

Mechanically they are able to easily track very fast objects. It would be a matter of software. Tracking asteroids and comets is easy, though...
